The B&DBA Cup - Sponsored by BEBC

A brand new annual one-day cup competition

Sunday 27th April 2025 @ Bournemouth BC

Rationale behind the new competition

Apart from clubs arranging friendlies with one another prior to the opening league games, the B&D currently do not hold anything for clubs to come together at the start of the season, having spent over half a year away from one another. This annual one-day event will enable up to 16 clubs to be represented, taking part in a fun, competitive and action-packed day of bowls, at a club that has two greens. For 2025, Bournemouth BC will be the hosts.

Competition Format

  • Each club enters two teams of four - a total of 8 players of any gender. Players are chosen by their clubs and can be competing in any leagues, not just the Premier. Players must be named in the week prior to the competition taking place. Amendments can be made if necessary but will need to be notified before the day. This will result in teams knowing who they will be playing prior to the day and the times, green and rinks that they will play on.

  • There will be 4 playing periods (2 morning & 2 afternoon) when each team will play 3 matches of 6 ends - no trial ends. Every team will therefore play at least 18 ends.

  • Each team will play their 3 matches on different rinks, utilising both greens.

  • Teams are randomly drawn, ensuring different club opponents.

  • Whilst the two teams within each club are playing separately, against different teams, the overall rink scores combined will determine who goes through to the Finals.

  • Each team’s rest period will coincide with the other club team playing, so it is an opportunity to watch and support the other players at your club.

  • Lunch will be provided after the morning games.

  • Final - 6 ends. Highest positioned club (both rinks combined score) v 2nd highest positioned club, played on two consecutive rinks neither team has played on.

Who can enter?

The competition is open to the 16 highest positioned clubs in the Premier League from the previous season (2024). Should clubs not be able to be represented, it will open up, in order, to the seven other clubs within the Premier League. Lastly, if required, clubs who only compete in the Morning Triples Leagues, again, in order of finishing.
